Alex - The Chillhouse
I grew up on the East Coast of Australia inland from a small town called Byron Bay.
40 years ago my parents moved to the area as part of a movement of people who were searching for a simple but full life.
From a young age I started ballet and contemporary dance which I carried on for most of my teen years.
My mother is a yoga teacher, and under her influence I eventually opened up to exploring the practice. I soon discovered that it made me feel strong and capable not only physically but emotionally as well. I was able to find a quiet space within my own body which inspired me and fuelled my interest in learning more. Not just about the physical practice of asana but also the spiritual path of the full 8 limbs.
I started to play, finding a connection between art and music within yoga, a place where I could express myself through a physical form in a creative way.
I have taken great pleasure in deepening my practice over the years, approaching my asana with an imaginative mind. I endeavour to continually grow and dedicate myself to my path of learning, upon which I have had the opportunity of studying with many inspirational teachers from different lineages.
In those moment where life felt too difficult, where it feels like there is no easy way to move forward, my practice has been my saviour. I have managed to find a strength and a peace internally, to feel still and connected.
Every day is a new opportunity to live in the moment, enjoy the small things, not to take it all too seriously and to laugh as much as possible, to love and appreciate the gift of life and the way I get to live.
For me yoga is a reflection of what living is in its truest form and a beautiful reminder of how to live a full, honest and peaceful life. To be true to who you are physically, emotionally and spiritually.
I have to say I love my life, each day when I walk my dog on the beach or look out over the rice fields I think I am so lucky! I have created the life I love, I am living my own dream!
I get to do what makes me so happy, and best of all, I get to share it!
